2016 NewsLetter

22 December 2016

Dear Members

I am very honored indeed to have been elected Chairman of the HKSN. And I wish to take this opportunity to thank my predecessors for having laid a strong foundation for the Society, and our senior advisor for his unflagging support.

To strengthen our communication, we launch this quarterly electronic Newsletter to actively update you of recently held and upcoming events. You will find hyperlinks that bring you directly to event photographs, educational materials, information on future events, and so on.

The first Council Meeting has been held on 4 Nov 2016 to plan the activities in 2017. I would like to extend a warm welcome to Dr SK Mak for joining the Council, and to long-serving Dr Andrew Wong who has retired from the Council for his enormous contributions over the years.

I highlight some of the activities for 2017, so you can pencil down the dates on your diary. First, the bi-monthly Interhospital Meeting calendar has been uploaded to the Society’s website. The HA commissioned Training will be held on 21-22 Jan 2017 with the theme “Improving outcomes of renal grafts – from good to great”. On 5 March 2017, there will be the 12thWKD @ HK to be held in Kowloon Bay International Trade & Exhibition Centre, with the theme “Kidney Disease & Obesity – healthy lifestyle for healthy kidneys”. An APD Symposium will be co-organized with the Hong Kong Kidney Foundation on 26 Mar 2017. Call for applications for the Hong Kong Society of Nephrology Research Grants will roll out in May 2017. The annual Gateball fun day will be held on 11 June 2017 in Kowloon Park Indoor Sports Centre. The Society also plans to commission a GN Symposium on 8 Jul 2017 and a subcommittee is actively engaged in building an exciting program. The Annual Scientific Meeting cum Annual General Meeting will be held on 1 Oct 2017.

From 2017, new applications for memberships can be emailed to and they will be handled by Prof. Bonnie Kwan.  Applications for sponsorships to attend local or overseas educational conferences can be emailed 28 days in advance to and they will be handled by Dr. CC Chow.

Last but not least, I would like to thank you all for your support and trust in me.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any comments or suggestions for our Society.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
