Annual Scientific & General Meeting 2017

The Annual Scientific & General Meeting of the Hong Kong Society of Nephrology was held at InterContinental Hong Kong on 1 Oct 2017, with a total of 449 participants (96 full members, 314 associate members, 7 overseas speakers, 23 low-to-middle income countries (22)/high income country (1) participants and 9 non-members). The Richard Yu Endowment Fund Award Lecture was delivered by Prof. David Harris (Australia) and the Chan Woon Cheung Memorial Fund Award Lecture was delivered by Prof. Susan Quaggin (USA). The two keynote lectures were delivered by Prof. Philip Li and Prof. Danial TM Chan respectively. During the Annual General Meeting, Prof. Sydney Tang and other office bearers reported on the activities and the financial statements of the Society in last year, which was well-received by all members. The new Council was also re-elected en bloc from the previous Council during the Annual General Meeting. This year, we also included a new Young Fellow Showcase session, during which Dr. Ivy Wong from Princess Margaret Hospital shared her local data on BK virus nephropathy. Two previous HKSN Research Grant awardees (Dr. Steve Wong [AHNH] and Ms. Hui Yun Ho [UCH]) also presented their research findings during the meeting. Following the presentation by previous awardees, the HKSN Research Grants 2017 were presented to five successful applicants. This year, we also included a new joint symposium between HKSN and the British Columbia Provincial Renal Agency (BCPRA) to share experience in the care of renal patients. The first-ever APSN/HKSN/HKCP Joint CME course held one day prior to the ASM was another highlight.
